The #FlightGear dev team has released a minor version bump to 2024.1.6, with mostly bug fixes but a few small features as well. Please check the changelog here:
My honest feelings about the fact I don't use genAI/LLMs. I mean no disrespect to anyone or their personal choices.
Thank God I remembered this cartoon. The underlying premise fits so perfectly.

NOW that i got everyones attention too, be ready for SDL3 support in 0.7.1 (just needs a bit of kinks ironed out, android and possible sdl3-ttf patches) and Achievement support is WIP (though havent negotiated that, it'll prob be a 0.7.2). Thank Matusguy for that one!
Development might seem slower as some gears of my own are primarily focused on a new engine, too. Will share some more on that someday later. I think you all might like it :)
Happy pride month. A few days ago someone at work called me "gay." First off I don't think he knew anything about me. Second of all, it was just 1 guy. Like we probably only made out once. Okay it was 4 times. anyway we were both getting a lil into it. I didn't know what the hell i was doing and neither did he. But did not stop us from taking a hard right at saratoga. Anyway he still shouldnt have called me that. BTW You don't have to be gay or whatever to like Supertux, but it probably helps.
A new beta has been released, 100.0! This version is an important-looking milestone, but is a pretty standard release reflecting everything we've changed since last February.
This release adds BASE, SEED, stamp search, air sim customization, and more.

To me, like books, games are a small piece of people's souls. As long as they are made with love and without genAI/LLMs.
Wish everyone had the chance to make at least one game in their life before they die. A mini-game would suffice, as well, for the smallest experience can still hold a soul piece.

Coming Soon to Shattered: New Enchants and Pixel Art!
v4.0 has ended up being a much bigger update than expected! I'm going to share a quick update on the vault quest, then go over some very exciting things also coming in v4.0.
Two new "hats" are almost ready for release, adding some melee action to the game. One is inspired by Pax Tux, the other by Sir Optimize. Each provides directional protection against magic - one reflects fireballs, the other prevents being frozen - and both catch arrows.
Video devlog #06 for our fantasy point and click game is now up for everyone!
New characters, achievements, and pretty pixels!

#GameDev #IndieGame #GodotEngine #Godot #PixelArt #PointAndClick #Devlog #OpenSource #FOSS #CozyGame
1.19.24 has been released! Of note in this release are two fixes to language selection - on Windows all language options are now correctly shown when clicking the button to show all available languages and on Android the default language detection on first startup now works as well.
When you accidentally export your pixel art at the wrong resolution.
MEOW.

Expect a status update blog post about Shattered Pixel Dungeon later this coming week. In the meantime though, here's another new larger room coming in the vault quest! It's a long hallway with a patrolling enemy and alcoves to duck out of sight.
Why does hyperbolic space look like an ellipsoid?
We can explain this without any computations, by using Dandelin spheres:

Shortly after putting out the new Tux! release a few hours ago, a bug was discovered. The combination of the new sliding shells with the freeze spell had not been considered, but an idea was instantly born and executed: With the latest commit, frozen shells will freeze players upon impact, on top of dealing damage.
Bionic Blue is a free-of-charge open-source project whose code is released to the public domain, which you can find on this GitHub link, which includes instructions to install or execute as a standalone app.
What about the writing behind dying and restarting a mission? Is the character immortal? Does he goes back in time? Should the character ever acknowledge his own death? Is he even aware of it?
In conclusion, the existence and placement of satellite dishes as teleportation equipment serves not only game design purposes, but also the writing, helping make the world a tad more cohesive/believable.
After defeating the boss, the character doesn't teleport away immediately either. Since teleportation is dependent on satellite dishes, Blue walks back just a little ways in order to access the satellite dish that lies just outside the boss area:
Also explains why he has to advance through the level in order to activate the other satellite dishes, so that he can teleport closer to the objective the next time the mission restarts.
Also, only the first satellite dish is turned on when Blue enters the mission's area, which explains why the character couldn't teleport right away to the boss area.
That is why I thought it was important to make the act of teleporting dependent on specific spots and decided a satellite dish would be the perfect gizmo for that.
This detail seems trivial, but think about it like this: if game characters could teleport in and out of a mission's area whenever and wherever they wanted, why wouldn't they do it to escape threats or to tactically teleport right next to an unsuspecting enemy?
@vivaladev Hey, I've added Virtualord to our database of FOSS games, love the project so far! Just one question, do you have a square icon image with somewhat high resolution somewhere on the website or in the repo? Right now I'm pointing to the one on indiedb, which is a bit pixelated due to the low resolution. Cheers! https://fossgaming.codeberg.page/games/virtualord/

I really have to stop to make such huge refactors in a single commit, but once stared I can't stop until it works again.
At least good news that in the end I even have removed code, so it was (hopfully) worth it.

As a bonus, I leave the following questions for you to reflect upon, something that I intend to address in a future write-up:
Kennedy maintains FOSS
In conclusion, the existence and placement of satellite dishes as teleportation equipment serves not only game design purposes, but also the writing, helping make the world a tad more cohesive/believable.
Kennedy maintains FOSS
We also placed the satellite dish there in order for Blue to restart the mission just outside the boss area in case he was defeated by the boss.
Kennedy maintains FOSS
After defeating the boss, the character doesn't teleport away immediately either. Since teleportation is dependent on satellite dishes, Blue walks back just a little ways in order to access the satellite dish that lies just outside the boss area:
Kennedy maintains FOSS
Also explains why he has to advance through the level in order to activate the other satellite dishes, so that he can teleport closer to the objective the next time the mission restarts.
Kennedy maintains FOSS
Also, only the first satellite dish is turned on when Blue enters the mission's area, which explains why the character couldn't teleport right away to the boss area.
Kennedy maintains FOSS
That is why I thought it was important to make the act of teleporting dependent on specific spots and decided a satellite dish would be the perfect gizmo for that.

Kennedy maintains FOSS
In other words, the dishes clearly serve as checkpoints.
This is reinforced whenever the mission restarts after Blue dies:
Kennedy maintains FOSS
Throughout the mission area, Blue finds other satellite dishes and this is what happens when he touches them:
Kennedy maintains FOSS
🧵 This is how I tried to make the action of teleporting in and out of a mission area (level) more cohesive.
As seen below, the first thing that happens is Blue teleporting into the mission's area. Notice the satellite dish near the spot where he lands.
